Airborne 07.15.24: Airplane Thief, Joe Engle Goes West, B-29 To Decatur

A 28-year-old man residing in Concord, California, is out on bail after being arrested in connection with an attempted theft of multiple airplanes from the Buchanan Field Airport (KCCR).

 

Police have charged the man with six felonies including attempted grand theft and attempted fraud. The story began when a local owner got wind of his aircraft being advertised for sale. Which took him by surprise since he knew nothing about it nor had he authorized it. NAA paid tribute to USAF Major General Joe Henry Engle, who passed away on July 10, 2024. Engle always had a passion to fly. But he got nis start when he got to the University of Kansas where he spent summers sweeping hangars at Cessna. His boss recognized his passion and began teaching and mentoring him about airplanes. The Wings & Wheels event at Decatur Airport (KDEC) in Decatur, Illinois, was recently added to the B-29 Doc’s History Restored Tour schedule. The event will be held August 3-4, 2024. Doc will arrive at the airport on August 1 and will be available for rides on August 2-4. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!
