Has Been Narrating Airshows For More Than 40 Years

Veteran airshow announces Hugh Oldham has announced he is hanging up his microphone, at least mostly.

On his Facebook page Monday, Oldham said he completed the last airshow where Proairshow, LLC provided both sound and narration services to the airshow industry, as it has for some 40+ years.

"The equipment trailer goes on the market tomorrow. My high mileage body simply can not meet the expectations of my youthful mind and Jane has said 'no more', Oldham wrote.

"I will continue to narrate selected shows for a few more years but I will not drool on myself as I stammer to tell the story of aviation contributions to America. As I reflect on my forty years trying to make aviation both entertaining and informative to the average citizen I realize it is the airshow family, not the hardware, that has kept me involved," he continued.

"I am a storyteller; that ability has lead me to success in many endeavors: from equipment engineering, construction, general contracting, aircraft sales, and to, especially, teaching high school and college students of what could be; the ability to describe a nebulous concept is a God-given skill.

"I was 55 when I was "forced" to retire as I declined the opportunity to go to China to set-up a product manufacturing facility. Jane would never accompany me and grandchildren fixed me to Anderson SC. I took me that 55 years to realize the importance of the next generation; that my only legacy was the influence I left behind.

"Is my insignificance contribution to the future of aviation, my country and that next generation meaningful? I'll never know; only time will tell.

"I've been inspired by many, my success is only due to the fact I stand on the foundation built by those who came before. I implore all my friends to stand up, preach the real qualities that make America great and facilitate those who lead us forward."
