Van Nuys Sees Success with Local Aviation Career Day

16 Years on, Local Employment Drive Acquaints 20,000+ Students with the Variety of Aviation Careers

Van Nuys, California held the 16th annual career day at the local airport, bringing out (nearly) hundreds of students to see the breadth of aviation careers available right in their own backyard.

The Sky’s the Limit: Aviation Career Day was presented in conjunction with the Van Nuys Airport (VNY). This annual event, somewhat unfortunately, was held online for the 2nd time in a row. The online forum did allow a higher attendance rate than years past, bringing out almost 200 E-attendees.

The day provides a forum for local high school students to learn about the wide variety of careers available in the local airport community, apart from the usual jobs that come to mind. For high school students, the aviation world often begins and ends at pilots and flight attendants, with a broad spectrum of maintenance and repair jobs going unrecognized until they come into contact with them. The day allowed young teens to check in with managers and leaders from the area and learn in an airport environment directly from engaging leaders of organizations in the dynamic aviation and aerospace industries.

“Aviation Career Day exposes students to high paying careers right in their backyard,” said Los Angeles city council head Nury Martinez. "I'm glad that Valley students have this unique opportunity to network with important industry leaders as they explore career options.”

"Aviation offers an endless variety of career paths, from pilots and support crews to engineers and architects, and we are proud to share our passion for this work with students," said Justin Erbacci, CEO of  Los Angeles World Airports. "The Van Nuys Airport Aviation Career Day offers students a glimpse of working at one of the busiest general aviation airports in the world, and we thank our partners for sharing their time and knowledge with these future leaders.”
