Allows Steeper Descents At Lower Airspeeds
RDD Enterprises, LLC announced this week the immediate
availability of the 'Speed Bra-X' (as in, "speed brakes") for the
Vans Aircraft RV-10.
RDD headed up the development program on the RV-10 working in
concert with Precise Flight, Inc. Drawing on Precise Flight's
experience with speed brake design, the net result is a clean and
low-cost installation providing excellent performance.
"At cruise speeds, Speed Bra-X deployment will give you a steady
speed descent rate of 1,000 feet per minute or a level flight
reduction of 20 KIAS," said RDD's David McRae. "The RV-10
performance envelope is already very impressive and utilitarian,
we've just added a vertical dimension to it," McRae conclude.
The Speed Bra-X kit is priced for amateur aircraft builders at
$3,995.00 and requires approximately 15 hours of installation time.
Once installed, the benefits of Speed Bra-X can be realized in
virtually every phase of flight, including initiating rapid
descents without the need to reduce power, maneuvering without
increasing airspeed, quickly reducing indicated air speed to a safe
value upon encountering unexpected turbulence and increasing wing
loading for a smoother ride in rough air.
"RDD's ability to quickly and accurately develop and apply our
technologies helps expand the market and helps homebuilders to
improve the performance of their aircraft," said Precise Flight's
Steve Crenshaw. "We've been looking to break into the RV-10 market
for some time and Speed Bra-X is the perfect fit."
Precise Flight, Inc. currently holds a number of Supplemental
Type Certificates for speed brakes on a wide range of aircraft;
many are installed during production as original equipment. RDD has
immediate availability of Speed Bra-X for the RV-10 and can perform
installations or provide the homebuilder with thorough installation
instructions, complete with templates. The company plans more RV-10
products, including a built-in oxygen system and the company's
Therm-X deicing system.
