Tamarack Enters Sustainability Compact with OXÏ-ZEN

Of Carbon Emitters and Carbon Converters

Tamarack Aerospace, the Idaho-based aviation technology company and maker of the forward-thinking SMARTWING system, has signed a Memo of Understanding (MOU) with OXÏ-ZEN—an opaque Swiss entity that presents itself as “a scientific and economic platform that brings together CO2 emitters and convertors.”

The memo asserts the companies’ shared intention to actively support each other’s business interests and—continuing in the vein of opacity—speaks to the use of science-verified carbon sequestration to carbon-balance an aviation customer’s CO2 emissions and accurately track each balanced metric ton of carbon.

The OXÏ-ZEN process—which its namesake puts forth as simple, direct, transparent, and conducive to complete data integrity—will purportedly facilitate the full carbon-balancing of the entirety of Tamarack Aerospace customers’ products and services.

OXÏ-ZEN’s literature states: “The OXÏ-ZEN program is a blockchain-powered platform that will enable emitters and convertors of CO2 and other greenhouse gasses (GHG) to directly interact for carbon-balancing and transfer economic value. To carbon balance emissions on a one-to-one basis an emitter, in this case an aircraft operator, purchases from a selected convertor carbon sequestration (absorption) capacity that equals the carbon footprint of the emitter. Furthermore, emitters can select convertors based on preferred criteria. These can include geo-location, type of carbon sink, and the convertor's program to protect and enhance the carbon sink environment ...”

Whether or not Carbon Sequestration is synonymous with Tree is unknown.

Tamarack is looking forward to offering installation of its eco-SMARTWING upgrade as a fully carbon-balanced program, complete with a unique digital data-set showing how, where, and when each metric ton of carbon emission has been carbon-balanced.

To date, 160 Cessna CitationJets have been retrofitted with Tamarack’s patented eco-Smartwing, which comprises in part a wing extension and a load-alleviation system incorporating active winglets. The system dramatically increases aircraft take-off, cruise, and landing performance, fuel efficiency, and range—thereby enhancing sustainability. As Tamarack is currently adapting its technology to Airbus’s A320 and Boeing’s 737, the new MOU is apt to engender interest among optics-conscious operators of single-aisle airliners.

Tamarack and OXÏ-ZEN maintain the benefits of their collaboration far out-weigh the increased cost customers will pay for Tamarack-modified aircraft that include OXÏ-ZEN’s blockchain solution.

Excepting that they are dependent upon aircraft type, instance-specific fuel usage, prevailing fuel price, and carbon price at time of signing, the exact cost and end financial benefits of OXÏ-ZEN’s solution remain unstated.
