EBACE 2008: CMC Electronics PilotView EFB Installed By STC

Midcoast Granted First Class 2 EFB Approval On Challenger 605

CMC Electronics tells ANN Midcoast Aviation, of St. Louis, MO was recently granted Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval to install CMC Electronics’ PilotView Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) systems on the Bombardier Challenger series business jet. The approval grants Midcoast the first Class 2 EFB system approval for Challenger series aircraft.

Midcoast has installed the PilotView using a side mounting bracket system to the left and right of the pilot and copilot, respectively. Midcoast has been installing the PilotView Class 2 EFB system in Bombardier Global Express and CL-604 business jets for the last two years. The STC for the CL-605 is the first CMC Electronics’ equipment STC for Midcoast.

"Our EFB delivers a dependable, avionics grade system that supports industry leading applications," said John Barker, CMC’s director of marketing and sales in he Americas. "Many of the features found only in Class 3 EFBs such as ’FMS-style’ line select keys, a high-resolution, fully dimmable display, integrated communication capabilities and DO-160D qualification make the PilotView EFB an ideal system to meet the varied requirements of the business jet operator and air transport markets."

CMC’s PilotView EFB enables pre-flight planning and efficient access to up to date aircraft documentation, checklists and flight planning information. CMC says PilotView increases situational awareness in-flight with en-route and approach charts, moving map display, and graphical real time weather information. The PilotView is a compact, lightweight system with a display/processor unit and aircraft interface unit which are to easy to install in a variety of cockpits where space is at a premium.

Qualification to RCTA DO-160D and a design with no moving parts guarantee continued operation in all phases of flight. A high-quality 8.4" AMLCD display offers exceptional readability in all cockpit ambient light conditions. In addition to line select keys and a convenient integrated keyboard, the PilotView EFB offers a "film-on-glass" touch-sensitive screen providing pilots with a choice when accessing or navigating through EFB software applications.

PilotView allows a pilot to immediately view what is on the other pilot’s display through the touch of a single key. A unique feature is a one-touch video key that enables the pilot to toggle between the current application and video images from video surveillance systems.

"The STC to install the CMC Electronics’ PilotView EFB System in the Challenger series is a major achievement because it is a testament of our commitment to continuously provide high-tech design and integration”, said Blake Hogge, Midcoast Aviation’s senior director, modifications and maintenance sales. "We're poised for the future and dedicated to offering efficient, reliable and secure business aviation services. This STC enhances our service offering, which we consider to be a vital goal of Midcoast."
