Best of OSH25: Lightspeed Putting The Pilots and Safety First

New Zulu 4s Increase Audio Clarity While Chopping Unwanted Noise

While a good headset might not make or break your flying experience, it can certainly make your life easier. That’s the philosophy behind the new Zulu 4, the latest innovation from Lightspeed Aviation. With comfort, clarity, and pilot safety at the forefront, the Zulu 4 builds on Lightspeed’s mission “to save and protect lives” with features that go beyond noise reduction.

The original Delta Zulu, which was introduced a few years back, has a carbon monoxide detector and many of the design features of the Zulu 4. However, the Zulu 4 focuses entirely on enhancing communication, comfort, and safety. “We look at the pilot experience as an ecosystem,” says Heider Lazzarini, CEO of Lightspeed. That mindset led to key upgrades like AI-powered Noise Reduction (AINR), which claims to cut outgoing Bluetooth transmission noise by up to 90%, making pilot comms clearer.

Dual Bluetooth allows simultaneous connection to both a phone and tablet at the same time, and the newly designed frame-fit ear seals are designed for pilots wearing glasses or hats, preventing interference with the headset's noise cancellation. The comfort theme extends to the longer mic boom and upper cable.

Zulu 4 also has its own new Lightspeed Aviation App. While FlightLink is not supported for the Zulu 4, the user experience and user interface (UX/UI)  are capable of recording, archiving, and instant playback of in-flight audio, perfect for training purposes and debriefs. Sadly, it is only available for IOS devices at launch.

Lightspeed continues to support its loyal customers with its trade-in program, allowing owners of any Lightspeed headset (yes, even the really old ones) to upgrade to the latest model.
