Change Of Command At Navy Air Test Squadron

Ceremony Marks Handoff At NAS Patuxent River

In a change of command ceremony on October 3, 2024, U.S. Navy Cmdr. Jessica Barrientos took over the reins from Cmdr. Charles Larwood as commanding officer of the Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 20 at Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River in Maryland.

Cmdr. Larwood said, "It has been a privilege to serve as the commanding officer of this outstanding squadron. VX-20 plays a critical role in the advancement of naval aviation, and I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together. Thank you to each member of this squadron for your dedication and hard work—your commitment has made this experience truly unforgettable."

Cmdr. Barrientos said, "VX-20 tests emerging technologies that not only enhance our capabilities but also strengthen our national defense. After more than six years of supporting VX-20, I am honored to take the helm and lead such a dedicated team. Together, we will continue to uphold our commitment to excellence, fostering innovation and teamwork as we serve our mission and support our nation. I look forward to the challenges ahead and the opportunity to build on the strong legacy of this squadron."

Cmdr. Larwood is from Roswell, Georgia, and is a 2004 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He has extensive operational experience in P-8A and P-3C aircraft. He has more than 3,000 flight hours a variety of aircraft, and has received multiple awards. Cmdr. will retire from the Navy following the change of command.

Cmdr. Barrientos hails from Chicago, Illinois, and is also a graduate of the Naval Academy. She has served as the chief test pilot of VX-20 and has held various operational and leadership positions.

She served in two deployments in the Western Pacific with the Airborne Command & Control Squadron (VAW) 113 supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
