Superior Air Parts To Build 'State Of The Art' Piston Engine Facility

Superior Air Parts, Inc. has announced that it has signed a long term lease for a new building in Coppell, Texas, where a state of the art production facility will be built. This facility is adjacent to Superior's corporate headquarters located one mile north of Dallas / Ft. Worth International Airport in the Freeport North Business development.

"We began the third phase of our business plan just over a year ago by relocating our corporate headquarters to Coppell and establishing our Logistic Center in Memphis, Tennessee," stated Bernie Coleman (right), President and CEO. "Superior will use its new production facility to produce new, modern piston engines and parts for the general aviation industry setting the stage for completing this third phase of our plan and becoming a New Age Manufacturer."

"Superior has already started the certification process for our new SP-360 engine," continued Mr. Coleman.

"We anticipate announcing that we have received FAA type certification in April, 2002 and once the engine is type certified we would start producing it at our new production facility. Target markets for the engine will be new aircraft manufactures and aftermarket replacements through Supplemental Type Certificates."

"The SP-360, a 180-200 horsepower four cylinder engine will be the first engine built at our new production facility," stated Terry Wood, Vice President of Engine Programs. "This engine may look like a conventional competitive engine on the outside, but that is where the comparison stops. It has been forty six years since the FAA has given Type Certification approval for a production piston engine of this type. The SP-360 incorporates the latest improvements in materials and technology available today; improved parts and many other custom enhancements unavailable with competitive engines designed and approved almost half a century ago."

Wood further stated, "having spent ten years at Teledyne Continental, it is refreshing to see a new state of the art production facility, utilizing new modern manufacturing methods not currently in use by the competition. I get excited when I can talk to our customers about the benefits and value they receive from an SP-360 and also tour them through a production facility I can be proud." Superior's SP-360 will be the first certified engine built at this new facility, but not the last. There are several other new engines, including some with up to four hundred horsepower, in the development and testing stage.
