Spitfire Damaged In The U.K. After Landing

Nosed Over While Taxiing At Sywell Aerodrome

A restored Spitfire airplane was damaged when it nosed over while taxiing at Sywell Aerodrome in Sywell, Northamptonshire, U.K. last week.

The Northampton News newspaper reports that the aircraft, Grace Spitfire ML407, had just landed and was reportedly taxiing on its main landing gear when it pitched forward, resulting in damage to the propeller and left main landing gear.

The aircraft flew during the last 12 months of WWII, and has been flying air displays for the past 27 years, according to the report.

The Grace Spitfire official Facebook page reported that the aircraft "had a minor incident during the rollout after landing at Sywell Aerodrome. No one was injured, the aircraft has only minor damage and is safely back in Air Leasing's Hangar at Sywell."

A later post indicates that "The Grace Spitfire ML407 recovery process is going well. The shock load testing showed that the engine remains serviceable. Other inspections including NDT have had results (as anticipated) showing no problems. Our Air Leasing team are being supported by the very best and most helpful specialists, and my personal gratitude goes out to them all!"
