Aero-TV: SayWeather At Oshkosh - Affordable AWOS Alternative

The System Has Already Saved A Life, Active In US At 100 Airports

“SayWeather is an AWOS alternative for airports. A lot of airports out there, we estimate 65-70% of general aviation aircraft fly into and out of airports that do not have weather,” says Larry Langebrake, Co-Founder Connectsix. “So what is a low-cost alternative to a very expensive AWOS, SayWeather. It enables that airport to provide real-time, surface observations to any airplane flying into or out of that airport. The system also real-time publishes information to the internet. We use WeatherUnderground, you can find the weather for your airport live on Weather Underground and it also goes to ForeFlight, and iFly GPS,” Langebrake continues.

He goes on to show the system to ANN. “SayWeather Pro-Plus actually has the ability to add instruments for visibility and present weather, and also sky conditions and ceiling information. This particular system is as close to an AWOS as you can get.”

According to Langebrake, SayWeather is being used at around 100 airports in the United States, with systems in Canada and Sweden as well.

“It is being broadly accepted not only through private airport owner-operators but several public use airports, municipalities; we have a hospital chain that uses them for medevac operations,” Langebrake says.

Langebrake demonstrates in real-time how a pilot flying into an airport would use the system. “You would simply key the mic four times on your radio and what you get is an automated response. It is a very short, brief advisory and it gets you informed.”

SayWeather is at Oshkosh marketing towards airports, and says that they have received a report about the first life their system has saved, which Langebrake believes is the best testimonial they can get.
