Also: CAE & Qantas, Pararescue Training Week, USAF Flight Test Museum, ALPA Pilots Picket

Celebrating the Young Eagles Program’s 30th anniversary, the EAA has loaded the year with fun activities.

Following the launch of the program at this year’s AirVenture 2022, the organization kicked off its “Young Eagles 30 Flight for 30 Years”, which will award a commemorative Young Eagles anniversary themed polo shirt to all aviators who fly 30 program participants from August 1, 2022 to July 31, 2022. The EAA will track the flights through their recordkeeping and contact those pilots who reach their milestones to claim their prize. Mesa Airlines, the Phoenix-based Part 121 carrier doing business as American Eagle and United Express, is making ready to raise its pilots’ salaries. Henceforth, the airline will pay its first officers and captains starting rates of $100 and $150-per-hour respectively. Mesa is the first regional airline to compensate its first officers so generously—surpassing a $90-per-hour mark set by American Airlines in June 2022. he bankruptcy of Aha! airlines and its parent company, Georgia-based ExpresJet, has grounded a fleet of five Embraer ERJ145 regional jets and the crews who flew them. Piedmont Airlines has announced that it will provide employment-relief to the newly displaced ExpressJet airmen under the distressed carrier provision of its ALPA-negotiated pilot contract. Added in 2021, the provision allows the airline to offer employment—as well as seniority-based pay and bonuses—to pilots in, or formerly in, the employ of carriers deemed distressed.
