Source: Saleh Haroon, Director of the Air Transport and Airport Affairs arm of Qatar's Civil Aviation Authority, on the CAA's cap on the differential in airfares between mainline carriers and low-cost operators flying from Doha International Airport. LCCs are only allowed to reduce their fares by 15 percent under what mainline, or "direct", carriers charge on the same route. The ceiling is essential, Haroon says, to maintain a level playing field, and insure that airlines take in enough to cover their operational expenses.
