Jeppesen Enhances Mobile Flitedeck Capabilities

Data-Driven Information Access Improves Pilot User Experience

Jeppesen recently introduced a new single installation option for its iPad-based Mobile FliteDeck electronic flight bag (EFB) solution, which now provides access to both IFR and VFR real time flight data.

Previously, pilots were only able to purchase and download Mobile FliteDeck that included licenses for installation of the app on multiple devices. The new single installation option for European coverage provides an affordable option for pilots that fly under both visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR) conditions.

“We continue to enhance our mobile EFB products to fit the need of our pilot customers, based on their input and feedback,” said Mike Abbott, director, Jeppesen Navigation & Flight Deck Programs. “The ability to switch between IFR and VFR data through a single installation offers pilots more flexibility in selecting the EFB service that best suits their requirements for flying.”

Pilots using Mobile FliteDeck will be able to take advantage of recently introduced features, to further enhance their flying experience. The VFR theme offers the ability to switch between IFR and VFR data on the real time, data-driven enroute map. The ability to import route information and third-party flight planning data into Mobile FliteDeck from sources including RocketRoute, AvPlan and FltPlan.com is now available.

Mobile FliteDeck also now allows pilots to view which origin and destination airport pairs have been cleared by air traffic control in the past 24 hours. Determination of routes based on this knowledge will help pilots plan flights more efficiently, especially in congested airspace. Additionally, recently introduced in-app search capabilities now help pilots discover features and user support information.

These enhancements create greater pilot control of information display and configuration of Mobile FliteDeck elements based on user preferences.

Use of Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck eliminates paper-based flight materials to increase fuel efficiency and streamlines the entire flight process, allowing pilots to focus on essential flying tasks instead of managing technology. Mobile FliteDeck also includes enroute weather data display for icing, turbulence, winds aloft, radar and surface observations.
