Aero-TV: DBox At I/ITSEC 2016--Bell 206 Helicopter Simulator

From 2016 (YouTube Version): Vibration Component Added For A More Realistic Training Experience

The Bell 206 has been around for a while with a variety of missions. So an updated simulator for the aircraft has a broad audience.

That's the assessment of Sebastien Loze, Director of Marketing for D-Box, who spoke to ANN CEO and editor in chief Jim Campbell at the Interservice Industry Training Simulation & Education Conference (I/ITSEC) conference late last year. Loze said the sim is a 1-1 scale replica of the Bell 206 cockpit with movement from D-Box that not only provides the motion but the vibration level that might be experienced by a pilot during various phases of flight in the aircraft.

The company worked with Quantum 3D, which provides the visual aspect of the simulation. Precision Flight Controls, a long-time partner of D-Box, developed the actual cockpit and instrumentation, and Ryan Aerospace, which developed the cyclic and collective controls for the sim to provide a very realistic feel to the device.

Loze said that D-Box has worked with many of these partners for a long time, which helped in the development of of the FTD. The device also uses several commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components, which also helped the project advance smoothly and keep costs down.
