While at EAA AirVenture 2016, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, sat down with Joe Brown, the President of Hartzell Propeller. The results of Jim’s interview is a fascinating insight to how Hartzell designs the propellers and creates new technology that most of us take for granted.
Jim starts out by finding out what Hartzell has done that is new. The list is long as Brown rattles off new designs that they had created for various types of airplanes. Many of their props are specially designed just for certain airplanes, and the video shows you some examples.
Things really get interesting when Jim asked the question about how they design propellers and create them for specific purposes or aircraft. Brown provides some fascinating background information and this is accompanied with video that shows how they do it. As you’ll see, propeller manufacturing is an art form.
Jim also gets into the area of propellers in acrobatic aircraft, and Brown discusses how their propeller was chosen as the prop to be used by the Red Bull Air Racers. You’ll learn some valuable information by watching this video.
