SAFE Comes To AirVenture With A Full Plate

Forum Presentations, New Programs Highlight A SAFE Week

The Society of Aviation and Flight Educators plans a full week of activies at EAA's Airventure at Wittman Airport (KOSH) at Oshkosh next week. Members of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators will be conducting at least two dozen forums during AirVenture on topics ranging from "Making a Living as a Flight Instructor" to "Glass Cockpit Transition", "Stall/Spin Myths", "How to Start a Flight School", "Rapid GA Growth with Light Sport Aircraft", and "The Lost Art of Directional Control" along with others.

A couple of noteworthy presentation at SAFE's booth include Jeff Moss, the FAA 2010 National Flight Instructor of the Year, who will give an informal talk on Monday, July 26th at 1100 on "Teaching Single-Pilot Jet Operations". On Friday, July 30th at 1100, Master Instructors LLC will provide an informal discussion on "Submitting a Successful Master Instructor Portfolio".

The organization's flight instructor liability insurance program is debuting during AirVenture. The launch of this benefits-rich program fulfills a key promise made during the organization's founding in 2009. The program offers extensive coverage for CFIs, including online applications and the ability to finance premium payments. A discount is also available to SAFE members who are current Master Instructors.

In an effort to encourage students of aviation education as well as new instructors to become part of a professional organization of their peers, SAFE is introducing the Apprentice membership level during AirVenture. The lower cost Apprentice membership offers access to many of SAFE's member benefits, including networking opportunities to help these aspiring educators establish themselves in the profession. Apprentice members will also have access to some of the top aviation educators in the industry.

Meanwhile, SAFE has partnered with several other organizations for demonstrations at AirVenture. They've hooked up with Redbird Flight Simulations to have a desktop flight simulator available to test fly at its booth, and gotten together with Lightspeed Aviation to administer a challenging, 20-question Communications Quiz during AirVenture. The quiz is open to anyone, and those who earn a passing grade will be entered into a random drawing for a Zulu ANR headset valued at $850. They're also working with Advocates for Aviation Safety Foundation to facilitate an opportunity for FBOs and other interested parties to add an FAA Events Search Widget to their websites. The Widget allows users to search for events sponsored by the FAASTeam as a function of user-specified zip code and radius.

Much of the activity will take place at SAFE's booth at AirVenture.
