Micro Aerodynamics Offers Saratoga Vortex Generator Kits

Do-It-Yourself Kit To Maximize Slow Flight

Micro AeroDynamics has added the Piper Saratoga to list of over 500 models of twin and single engine aircraft that have been granted STCs for installing micro vortex generators.  The models of the Saratoga that received FAA approval for the kits are the PA-32R-301 (SP), PA-32R-301 (HP), PA-32R-301T, PA-32-301 and PA-32-301T.

Wing installation includes 86 vortex generators lined up along the full span of the wings, just aft of the leading edge.  Another 24 VGs are glued to the trailing edge of the vertical stabilizer and 44 go under the leading edge of the stabilator.

Besides the required 154 VGs, the kits include comprehensive installation instructions, templates for positioning, spares and Loctite Depend adhesive for securing the VGs to the appropriate surfaces.  Where needed the attaching surfaces of the VGs are curved to accommodate airfoils.

An inch long and a quarter inch high, the canted Vortex Generators cause passing air to swirl in controlled patterns, keeping the boundary layer attached to flying surfaces at slower speeds.  Manufactured under an FAA PMA, the VGs are made of 6063-T6 Aluminum and come alodined, ready for painting.  For an additional $100, they can be painted to match the base color of the aircraft.
