Flightcell Releases Iridium-Based Comms System

Interference-Free Satellite SVS Allows Uninterrupted ATC Communications

Flightcell has expanded their portfolio of satellite enabled flight equipment for use on the edge of civilization's service area with the Safety Voice Services, or SVS, comms module.

The SVS provides reliable air traffic voice communications free of interference common to legacy high frequency radio systems, providing worldwide voice comms anywhere on the globe. Regardless of the flight path, the SVS provides closed circuit, high-quality voice communications in a small, 1.4-lb package. Its compact design is geared for smaller commercial, military, or private aircraft seeking an alternative to heavier, bulkier HF radio equipment, with a NVIS-Compliant LCD display and backlit keypad.

The silicone keypad features convex buttons for secure gloved operation, with miskey prevention guards and configurable shortcuts further enhancing ease of use. The SVS supports priority calling and direct override of calls with lesser urgency, as well as dual and single modem options. Internal microphone bias is available on each channel, in addition to side tone functionality.

Installation is easy, with a light and compact package slotting in comfortably in a 4.7" by 2.2" space in the panel. Flightcell notes that the SVS meets TSO-C159d requirements, but is a non-TSO certified product. It supports up to 2 Iridium satellite antennas, as well as ATS sim cards.
