Home Of the 101st Airborne Division Mourns Multiple Losses

They came in waves, shock after shock after shock. Fort Campbell, home of the Army's 101st Airborne Division is reeling in the face of three deadly incidents involving soldiers based there.

Fort Campbell Public Affairs Officer George Heath says officials are in the process of notifying the families of soldiers involved in the incidents. In one incident a Black Hawk from the division went down near Tikrit, killing six soldiers on board. One 101st soldier was killed in east Mosul when his convoy was ambushed with rocket propelled grenades and small arms fire.

The third incident involved another soldier from the 101st east of Mosul who was killed when his convoy was attacked with an "improvised explosive device."  All three incidents happened Friday morning.

Heath went on to say he can't remember when there has been a deadlier 24 hour period for the 101st. He would not specify the missions of the soldiers who were killed until next of kin has been notified.
