Airborne 06.24.19: StratoLaunch 4 Sale?, Canada Needs Pilots, MidEast NOTAM

Also: NAC Acquiring ATRs, Kopter’s SH09 Third Proto, UK Red Arrows, Gone West-Jack Swope

The Stratolaunch aircraft, developed to launch small payloads into space from a conventional runway, is being offered for sale by Vulcan, the holding company founded by the late Paul Allen. Stratolaunch, which has flown once, is being offered for $400 million.

The price includes the airplane, intellectual property, and associated facilities. Neither Stratolaunch or Vulcan would comment on the rumors of a proposed sale, saying that the company "remains operational. We will provide an update when there is news to share." But the company has been downsizing during the first half of this year, and much of the workforce has been laid off even with a valid contract to launch a small rocket for Northrop in 2020. In June 2019, programs were launched to ensure the continuing health of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and its ability to achieve mission success. These initiatives are vital in the face of an unprecedented level of global competition for the skills of pilots, technicians, highly trained aviation specialists, and support personnel. The RCAF is working on restoring and retaining levels of personnel experience and thereby ensure it is able to meet its current mandate and properly transfer skills and knowledge to the next generations of aviators. The FAA has issued a NOTAM prohibiting certain flights in the overwater area of the Tehran Flight Information Region (FIR) (OIIX) above the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. All flight operations in the overwater area of the tehran flight information region (FIR) (OIIX) above the Persian Gulf and Gulf Of Oman only are prohibited until further notice due to heightened military activities and increased political tensions in the region, which present an inadvertent risk to U.S. civil aviation operations and potential for miscalculation or mis-identification. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
