NJ Republican: Boycott Paris Air Show

Jim Saxton Hopes To Change French Minds On Iraq

Rep. Jim Saxton (R-NJ) is proposing the military and U.S. defense companies boycott the 45th Paris Air Show if France continues its refusal to support the United States position on Iraq.

"[The letter sent to House colleages] asks that Americans, American companies and the US Armed Forces not participate in the 45th Paris Air Show if France continues to oppose the potential use of force to ensure that Saddam Hussein complies with United Nations resolutions concerning weapons of mass destruction," Saxton said.

Saxton is chair of the new House Armed Services Committee's subcommittee on Terrorism, Unconventional Warfare and Capabilities.

The Paris Air Show takes place June 15-22.

"France has long been an ally and a friend of the United States," Saxton said. "The world has benefitted when our two countries have cooperated in defending freedom. At this time in history when international cooperation is so important in combating terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, it is important that the government of France understands how deeply Americans are committed to protecting the United States from these threats."
