Vertical Flight Society to Hold AAM Infrastructure Workshop

6th Workshop on Changing Demands of Vertical, Sustainable, and Autonomous Flight open for Registration

The Vertical Flight Society is putting the finishing touches on its upcoming Advance Air Mobility Infrastructure Workshop, held from September 20 to 22 in Dayton Ohio.

The event will focus on recent developments surrounding eVTOL support structures in particular. Rex Alexander, the Society's Infrastructure Advisor, said that they would focus on a few recent publications driving the direction of the AAM industry.

“The overall theme for this year’s two-day infrastructure workshop will be centered around the recently published NASA white paper, ‘Advanced Air Mobility Vertiport Considerations: A List and Overview.’”

The white paper, the Vertical Flight Society says, is "the direct product of NASA’s highly successful AAM Ecosystem Working Groups (AEWGs) program". It outlines more than 500 different considerations for evaluating and determining vertiport site selection after consultation with almost 100 subject matter experts.

A series of breakout brainstorming sessions will focus on high intensity, fast paced audience participation with stakeholders, developers, and experts as attendees dive into cybersecurity, equity, safety, engineering, and architecture issues surrounding new AAM construction. Vertiports are more than just a reskinned airport, with a bevy of concerns and requirements that demand builders acquire new information, understanding, and skillsets to create. On day 2, the workshop will touch on battery charging infrastructure, legal requirements, and hydrogen infrastructure. Finally, the Society will host a tour of Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport, showing off the Beta Technologies Vertiport and simulator. Afterwards, they'll show off the Agility Prime Program display, Moon Surefly eVTOL, and Ohio UAS Center to help attendees visualize some of the possibilities of AAM developments.

Registration is open at the organization's website, with a target audience of nearly anyone involved in  future eVTOL-related construction. Those involved with aeronautical legislation or regulation at the state, local, or federal level is strongly encouraged to attend.
