Kas Lives! Noted Aero-Writer Updates Pivotal Aviation Powerplant Book

Kas Thomas' "Fly The Engine" Is Back... and Better Than Ever!

One of the best and most concisely written books we ever read was none other than former TBO Advisor Editor Kas Thomas' "Fly The Engine."

Easy to read, well-detailed, long on insight and short on BS; FTE was a book that we thought EVERY piston pilot should keep no farther away than arm's length... Until it went out of print quite a few years back.

Still, I've got a well-worn copy on the shelf behind me, as I write this... less than an arm's length away.

No kidding.

Now, it's back... and better than ever. The much revised 2008 edition has returned to the print world for the first time in over a decade, and is "Fully revised and updated" with a whopping 278 pages and 20% new material.

Described as "The ultimate book on aircraft engine operation," 'Fly the Engine' takes a pilot through all the critical phases of engine operation -- showing you how to spot engine discrepancies on preflight; how to start a hot, cold, or flooded engine; how to troubleshoot a rough run-up; when (and when not) to lean the engine for all phases of flight; how to recognize valve sticking; and much more.

Kas noted that, "It took a good while to update the original manuscript. All in all, I'm surprised how well the material has stood up over time. But I made quite a few changes, additions, corrections, and deletions; and I added a good bit of new material (resulting in an increase in the page count, to the tune of around 45 pages). This is a true page-by-page revision, not a quickie once-over fluff job."

E-I-C NOTE: Kas promises that "every chapter of 'Fly the Engine' brims with hands-on advice," and is written with Kas' unique style and insight. Folks; no kidding... Kas was one of the few Aero-Writers I've read who told it like it was... even when it wasn't the easy thing to do. I'm glad to see him back among the fold... and look forward to sitting down with the updated version of "Fly The Engine." I respect the guy immensely and can recommend him unreservedly. --Jim Campbell, ANN Editor-In-Chief"

"Fly The Engine" lists for $39.95 and may be ordered via the links below...
