Golden West Jet Center to End FBO Services on June 1
Golden West Jet Center of Oxnard Airport is on its way out, after owner Harold Lee chose not to bid on a renewal for fixed base services.
The Oxnard, California airport has been good to Golden West Jet Center, according to Lee, but times have changed and the company just doesn’t jive with the site like they once did. For more than 40 years in the FBO industry, Lee owned Van Nuys Skyways, Inc, operating as Million Air Burbank at Hollywood Burbank Airport (KBUR). Prior to that, Lee operated Million Air Van Nuys at KVNY, Million Air Palm Springs at KPSP, and Golden West Jet Center at KSMX.
So what’s next for the Lee family? His daughter, Priscilla Howden, said they have their hands full with the upcoming World Cup and Olympic rush, among other projects. Howden serves as the general manager over both Million Air Burbank and Golden West Jet Center, giving her a wide view over the family kingdom–and the Los Angeles area demands a lot of attention. It's understandable why they would reassess their attentions and pivot resources towards the demanding (and profitable!) LA basin. Lee said “We’ve truly valued our time at Oxnard Airport, however, our strategy has evolved, and continued operations at Oxnard no longer align with our long-term goals. We remain optimistic about the future for our company and are open to new opportunities.”
Howden said the team has “several exciting projects underway at our Burbank location,” with plans to roll out electric vehicle charging stations by the end of the year, along with some more FBO renovations. But it’s always sad to leave the nest. Lee said “It’s bittersweet to leave the airfield after nearly two decades. We’ve loved serving our customers and have made so many wonderful relationships during this time. Our entire team is thankful for the support of those customers, the airport, and the community during our time at KOXR. We have full confidence in the new operator the airport selected and look forward to following their new journey as we focus on new efforts at KBUR.”
Golden West Jet Center will terminate services at Oxnard on June 1st, 2025.
