Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen2 Receives FAA Type Certification

Customer Feedback Drives Comprehensive Gen2 Upgrades

Textron Aviation announced that its Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen2 has gained type certification from the FAA, which brings the most comprehensive Citation Gen2 investment to the market. Customer feedback drove the enhancements to the aircraft, including autothrottle, an additional 4.5 inches of legroom for pilots, and a fully customizable cabin environment.

The jet is expected to enter into service this year after completion of 445 flight test hours.

Chris Hearne, Senior Vice President of Engineering & Programs for Textron Aviation said, “FAA certification of the CJ3 Gen2 is an example of Textron Aviation’s leadership in certifying aircraft. This aircraft delivers proven performance, cutting-edge technology and an unparalleled cabin experience, supporting customers missions whether it be for relaxation, innovation or productivity.”

The upgraded light jet features the G3000 avionics suite that includes:

  • Autothrottles to reduce pilot workload and provide flight-envelope protection
  • Optional Enhanced Vision System (EVS) to provide improved clarity and optimized situational awareness
  • Intuitive touch screen interface
  • GDL60 for aircraft connectivity, including remote transmission of flight plans, automatic database updates, as well as wireless transmission of aircraft diagnostic data

Passengers will experience a luxury interior that is fully customizable and permits them to create the ideal cabin for their mission. Accent lighting enables customers to personalize the environment, every seat has USB-C power, and wireless charging throughout the main cabin allow productivity and entertainment to continue during flight.

The CJ3Gen2 has a max rangeof 2,040 nm with a useful payload of 5,530 lb with superior performance. Standard seating is for nine passengers with an option for eight with additional storage.
