Country Star Dierks Bentley Joins the Special Olympics Airlift

Effort Transports Hundreds of Athletes and Coaches to the 2026 Special Olympics Games

Award-winning country music artist Dierks Bentley is the latest volunteer for this year’s Special Olympics Airlift, which will transport hundreds of athletes and coaches from across the nation to the 2026 games in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. The effort is organized each year by Textron Aviation.

“Getting to be part of the 2026 Special Olympics Airlift is something I’m genuinely excited about,” Dierks Bentley expressed. “As a pilot, it’s an incredible way to use aviation for good — and as a person, it’s a chance to connect with some truly inspiring athletes. It’s going to be unforgettable.”

For nearly 40 years, Textron has been running the annual airlift like a well-oiled machine. Participating aircraft fly under the “Dove” call sign, which grants them National Airspace System priority from the FAA during the operation. Doves are expected to take off or land at St. Paul Downtown Airport on June 19 and 27 every three minutes over a ten-hour window, marking what Textron calls the largest peacetime airlift in the world.

This setup has allowed the Special Olympics Airlift to carry more than 10,000 athletes and coaches to various games, providing a charter-like experience to participants who might otherwise face serious travel barriers.

“Dierks supporting the 2026 Special Olympics Airlift is a powerful example of how aviation can bring people together for a greater purpose,” added Ron Draper, Textron president and CEO. “His passion for flying and for giving back reflects the very spirit of this mission and we’re honored to have him on board.”

“The chance to give these athletes a first-class experience is something I’m honored to be part of. I hope other pilots out there will hear this call and join us in lifting these champions to new heights,” said Bentley.

Bentley’s celebrity endorsement adds some star power to the role, but as always, the success of the mission will come down to whether enough pilots step up alongside him.
