Crop Duster Ferry Pilot Broke No Rules

FAA Spokesperson Says Pilot Had Clean Record At Time Of Mid-Air With USAF T-37

A few days ago we reported the tragic news that a USAF T-37 training aircraft had collided in mid-air with an Air Tractor cropdusting aircraft that was being ferried from the factory to its new owner.

The pilot, Dierk Nash of Wheatley (AR), was killed, but the two pilots in the T-37, Captain Christopher Otis and Second Lieutenant Roderick James, parachuted to safety and survived.

The crash took place over an MOA in airspace over Tillman County (OK). The T-37 was returning from a training mission and was on its way back to Shepard AFB in Wichita Falls (TX).

FAA spokesperson John Clabes told the Associated Press that Nash had a clean flight record, and was not in violation of any federal aviation regulations at the time of the accident. The accident is still under investigation by the FAA and NTSB, as well as the US Air Force.
