Sources: Apache Helicopters Delivered To Egypt

Pentagon Says Aircraft Will Prop Up Counterterrorism Efforts

The U.S. has sent 10 Apache helicopters to Egypt, according to sources at the Pentagon, in an effort to prop up that country's efforts against terrorism.

The delivery had been put on hold in April of this year, according to a report from Israelhayom.com, after the military defeat of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi. But Egypt is now fighting an Islamist insurgency that is targeting security personnel in the Sinai Peninsula on the border with Israel and the Gaza Strip.

The Pentagon announced the delivery of the Boeing-built aircraft in September to support Cairo's efforts against that insurgency.
