Maryland Governor Joins ARINC On Trade Mission

Airports Authority Of India Will Be Upgrading 25 Airports

If you followed the news in 2011, it would be easy to reach the conclusion that politicians in general, and one major party in particular, don't value aviation as a contributor to the US economy. That doesn't appear to be a problem in Maryland.

Earlier this month, ARINC joined Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley (State of Maryland image from YouTube) and First Lady Katie O’Malley on a historic trade mission to India with a delegation of more than 100 Maryland business leaders, educators and elected officials—the largest-ever trade mission delegation from Maryland.

The primary objective of the trade mission was to create new investment opportunities for Maryland businesses looking to enter or expand into Indian markets, and for Indian companies looking to enter U.S. markets by locating in Maryland.

One of the highlights of the mission was a meeting between India’s Minister of Civil Aviation Mr. Vayalar Ravi, Governor O’Malley, and ARINC’s Asia Pacific Managing Director Mr. Jim L. Martin, to discuss the modernization of India’s airports, with reference to a recent tender issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to upgrade 25 of its airports.

O’Malley, a Democrat, mentioned that Maryland is one of the top technology states in America, and ARINC has had an established and outstanding record in helping airports worldwide enhance operations and improve passenger services by leveraging the latest cutting-edge technologies. The company is in an excellent position to help AAI achieve its goals of modernizing their airports, and requested the minister to provide opportunities to help ARINC grow in India.

“I am pleased to support ARINC—one of our top Maryland companies and an outstanding corporate partner—in their bid to upgrade more than two dozen airports in India,” said Governor O’Malley. “Maryland’s recent mission to India yielded impressive results with nearly $60 million in deals between Maryland and India companies. We are hopeful that ARINC is successful in expanding its already successful operations with the Airports Authority of India.”

Mr. Jim L. Martin said, “I would like to express my deep sense of pride and appreciation to Governor O’Malley for personally attending this meeting with us and endorsing ARINC for India and the recent AAI tender. With his help, we hope to work closely with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, AAI and other industry consortiums to help airports in India achieve world class standards.”

Among other matters that were discussed during the meeting were ARINC’s intent to expand its VHF radio infrastructure in the sub-continent, and increase its human resources to better support customers in India.

ARINC, Incorporated provides communications, engineering and integration solutions for commercial, defense and government customers worldwide. The company is headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland with regional headquarters in London and Singapore.
