South African Man Arrested After Hijack Attempt

Suspect Not Allowed On Board Earlier

What do you get when your flight is overbooked, you're late and forced to sit idly in the terminal waiting for the next God-knows-when jetliner? You get angry. And in the case of a 38-year old South African man, you get in trouble.

South African Airlines says the unidentified man had indeed been bumped from an SA flight that was supposed to take him to Capetown from Durban. So he got on another flight, still fuming. A flight attendant reported the man was verbally abusive and threatened to hijack flight SA613.

Oops.

That got him and his wife thrown off the second flight and landed the man behind bars. He'll  appear in the Amanzimtoti Magistrate's Court tomorrow. He will be charged under the Civil Aviation Act which amongst others, states that one cannot threaten the safety of an aircraft or its passengers.
