Republic Airways Confirms Order For 80 Airbus A320neo Family Aircraft

New Aircraft To Be Flown By Frontier Airlines

Republic Airways Holdings has confirmed its order with Airbus to purchase 60 A320neo and 20 A319neo aircraft. Republic had signed a letter of intent for the purchase in mid-June.

The aircraft, which will be powered by CFM’s LEAP-X engines, will be flown by Republic’s Frontier Airlines subsidiary. Frontier currently operates 59 Airbus A318, A319 and A320 aircraft.

“This order is a confirmation of our confidence that Airbus and the NEO aircraft will be significant contributors to the future growth of Frontier Airlines,” said Bryan Bedford, chairman, president and CEO of Republic Airways. “We see high fuel prices continuing, and these state-of-the-art, fuel-efficient aircraft will be a major factor in Frontier maintaining its position as an industry cost leader. They will allow Frontier to continue to offer travelers low fares despite persistently high fuel prices.”

“The neo is already proving to be the single-aisle aircraft for our industry’s future, and with this order, Republic has demonstrated its position as a forward-thinking organization that puts its passengers at the front of its buying criteria,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer. “Frontier joins a growing list of U.S. airlines that will soon experience the tangible benefits of the neo.” (Image provided by Airbus)
