Karen K. Duncan Scholarship Recipients See up to $5,000 for College
Duncan Aviation published the profiles of the students chosen for its scholarship program, providing local students with assistance in meeting their tuition needs.
The Karen K. Duncan Scholarship provides assistance for students attending a 2 or 4-year college or technical school, with the most recent disbursement providing for their upcoming Fall semester. Students supplied essays, academic achievements, leadership examples, and career goals for consideration, with a company committee reviewing them for selection. In 2023, the scholarships could total up to $100,000 overall, if each awardee follows a track that uses up their $5,000 cap. The scholarship provides $1,250 per semester for up to 4 semesters.
Each student selected boasts a pretty full course load alongside the usual bevy of leadership extracurriculars seen in scholarship contenders. A president of the table tennis club for here, a National Honor Society member there, and no shortage of food bank volunteers. Duncan's offering is quite lasseiz-faire in terms of disbursement, allowing students to choose their own school track and career path without strings yanking them towards business aviation. That freedom is nice to have for students finding their own way in life, especially for parents in the local community staring down the ever-mounting costs of tuition.
“In honor of my mother’s strong belief in education, the Karen K. Duncan Scholarship Program was started to help Duncan Aviation team members fund post-secondary education expenses for their kids,” says Todd Duncan, Chairman of Duncan Aviation. “In the 25 years since we started this program, 401 scholarships totaling $1,952,500 have been awarded.”
