ISS Crew Takes May Day Off, Readies Station for Progress

The Expedition 19 crew took Friday off in observance of the Russian May Day holiday. However, they did participate in routine medical proficiency training by reviewing the Health Maintenance System and the Advance Cardiac Life Support equipment.

Commander Gennady Padalka and flight engineers Koichi Wakata and Mike Barratt also are preparing for a new shipment of propellant, oxygen, supplies and hardware. The ISS Progress 33 spacecraft will make the delivery on May 12. Launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan is set for May 7.

On May 6 the ISS Progress 32 cargo vehicle, loaded with trash and other discarded items, will undock from the International Space Station. Russian ground controllers will deorbit the vehicle 12 days later after a series of engineering tests. Data will be collected over several days on the effects of engine firings on the plasma in the Earth’s atmosphere.
