FAA Approves Digital Engine-Indicating & Crew-Alerting System

Enhancement For Innovative Solutions & Support’s Flat Panel Display System

Innovative Solutions & Support (IS&S), of Exton, PA, announced it has gained FAA certification for the Engine-Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) upgrade to its B757/B767 Flat Panel Display System (FPDS).

The EICAS enhancement simplifies the flight deck, resolves issues with CRT obsolescence, and reduces weight by 40 pounds. It is also easily installed with minimum downtime and that installations have begun with initial customers.

The EICAS display is another 10.4-inch LCD identical to the others to the center of the panel and connects directly to existing CRT connectors. Installation is rapid and the new IS&S display provides the same information as the current CRT display so training differences are minimal. There is additional space for custom warning annunciations as well as a reversionary display on the navigation display of the FPDS.

“As the trend of reconfiguring B757/B767 aircraft for cargo operations continues, these planes offer a cost-effective solution for both legacy carriers and newer operators expanding their air cargo platforms. The addition of an EICAS display to the IS&S system enhances the FPDS, delivering improved economy, safety benefits, and unmatched reliability” stated Larry Riddle, Vice President of Commercial Sales & Marketing.

The IS&S retrofit FPDS replaces aging legacy flight instruments and improves performance, situational awareness, and safety. It can be installed in one day, reduces by 80% the number of components and eliminates 220 pounds of equipment.
