G501SP Avionics Suite Receives Canadian STC Approval

Allows For Upgrades Of Canadian-Registered Citation 501 Airplanes

Transport Canada has followed the FAA's certification for the installation by Sierra industries of the G501SP avionics package in Canadian-registered Citation 501 airplanes. The company says the move marks a significant milestone in the Sierra/Garmin avionics retrofit program.

Canadian transport ministry acceptance SA11050SC-D makes it possible for Canadian Citation 501 owners and operators to benefit from the high-tech cockpit upgrade. Developed in cooperation with Garmin International, the G501SP upgrade gives the classic Citation 501 series cockpit the look, feel and functionality of a brand new business jet.

The G501SP digital avionics package integrates the latest in GPS, terrain, weather and aircraft traffic technologies, significantly enhancing situational awareness and streamlining the pilot’s workload. Combined with AeroNav charts, integrated digital engine instrumentation and optional upgrades such as SVT synthetic vision and TAWS, the G501SP upgrade gives the classic Citation capabilities that compare very favorably to the newest light jets on the market. Other options include RVSM, a battery-backed “Trilogy” digital standby instrument package from L3 and a pedestal-mounted alphanumeric keypad.

The G501SP flight deck includes two high-resolution 10.4” LCD PFD displays for pilot and copilot and a centrally-mounted 10.4” LCD Multifunction Display at an installed price of $299,000.00. Optional upgrades include a 12” central MFD display, Jeppesen Charts, XM Radio, TAWS-B and a pedestal-mounted alphanumeric keypad. Typical installations will require 4 to 5 weeks, depending on options chosen. In-house financing through Skyway Financial Services can be utilized for this retrofit and trade-in credit for the aircraft’s existing avionics is also available.

The G501SP package and options are available for installation at Sierra’s Uvalde, Texas facility and in kit form for dealer installation at other locations. The system is applicable to all Cessna Citation 501 aircraft with either Pratt & Whitney JT15-D or Williams FJ44-2A engines.
