USAF Special Ops Command Selects CMC TacView Portable Mission Display For AC-130

CMC Electronics' newly-launched portable mission display known as 'TacView' has been selected by the United States Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) for its AC-130 gunship aircraft. The TacView displays will be offered in a dual installation that will enable paperless cockpit operations, including aircraft data and procedures manuals, interactive electronic charts and improved situational awareness, using the U.S. Air Force FalconView mission planning system.

Jean-Michel Comtois, vice president, military aviation, CMC Electronics, stated: "Our ultra compact TacView is specifically designed to facilitate military and paramilitary airborne mission effectiveness through improved real-time situational awareness. Its selection by AFSOC is excellent news and a solid endorsement of the TacView's capability to meet stringent military requirements."

TacView consists of a rugged, compact, self-contained, night vision imaging system compatible smart display and companion power supply/interface module. TacView provides functionality enhancements for military transports, fighters and helicopters, without impacting or having to modify the aircraft's existing operational flight program.

Some functions that can be hosted by TacView include tactical data link display for network-centric communications, portable mission planning, digital moving map, weather imagery, electronic aeronautical charts and targeting pod imaging. In addition, the TacView provides Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) functionality for paperless cockpit requirements for military aircraft.

TacView is large enough to display full-size instrument approach charts, checklists and moving maps, but small enough to mount in virtually any cockpit. Cockpit side mount, yoke mount and knee mount options provide the level of flexibility required for a wide range of aircraft. The TacView's super bright, sunlight readable 5" x 7" display features an integrated sliding keyboard, film-on-glass touch sensitive screen and bezel keys that provide an exceptional level of interface flexibility for gloved-hand operations.

The design of the TacView portable mission display is based on CMC's PilotView electronic flight bag. The Austrian Air Force recently decided to equip the flight decks of three C-130 aircraft with a dual installation of the PilotView EFB. PilotView is the sole OEM EFB option at Dassault, Gulfstream, Pilatus and Sino Swearingen. PilotView was selected recently by Rockwell Collins for the Bombardier Global platform, by Embraer for the E-170/190 program, and by ATR for the ATR-42 and ATR-72 aircraft. Over 23 STCs are available for the PilotView EFB on aircraft ranging from the GV to the B737. The PilotView EFB is also installed on the US Air National Guard C-32 (B-757).
