Southwest Regional EAA Fly-In Goes To Three-Day Event In 2005;

Also Streamlines Board Structure

The Southwest Regional EAA Fly-In (SWRFI), which has welcomed aviation enthusiasts to Texas for more than 40 years, will be expanding to a three-day event in 2005, including an air show on Sunday.

The event has been scheduled for May 13-15, 2005. The expanded dates were approved in response to EAA members and other participants who enjoyed the festivities and wanted additional activities on Sunday. The schedule and site for the 2005 event will be announced as it is finalized.

The SWRFI organizational structure has also been streamlined to improve the administrative efficiency of the event. Along with a 16-member Board the includes a 10-member executive committee, the fly-in has also created an advisory committee consisting of local EAA members and EAA chapter officials, among others, who will provide input for the successful growth of the event.

"Organizing a fly-in on any level is always a complex effort," said Stan Shannon, president of SWRFI. "There are many logistics that must be coordinated in a timely fashion to create an event appealing to EAA members and aviation enthusiasts. This revamped organizational structure will help us meet the needs of those participants well into the future."
