Aircraft Down: Harrison (AR)

Two People On Board Reported Dead

Two people aboard a single-engine, two-place aircraft, were killed Saturday when it went down just 300 yards from the Boone County (AR) Regional Airport. There's no indication yet as to what caused the accident.

Workers at a nearby softball complex said the aircraft appeared to be "dumping fuel" [or, more likely, lost a fuel cap-Ed] before it went down. They reported smelling avgas as they say it fell around them.

Witnesses say the pilot was attempting to land with ceilings of 700 feet and visibility of about five miles. Arkansas Lt. Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller's aircraft was standing by to land when the accident occurred. Pilot Heather Kizer decided after the accident that conditions were too low for her to land. Instead, she returned to Little Rock.

It's reportedly the second major incident at Boone County in two months. October 8th, two men survived when their aircraft impacted the ground just short of the runway.
