Classic Aero-TV: True American Legend - Reinventing the Classic Cub Again

American Legend Aircraft Company Introduces New S-LSA Cub

E-I-C Note: The Aero-TV Team -- Jim, Tom, Nathan, Paul, The 'Other' Jim, Ashley, Birgit, Wes, Klyde, Anjin, and the rest of the aero-gnomes -- want to wish you Happy Holidays while we all pursue our own various and sundry holiday diversions. Our regular daily webcasting schedule will resume promptly on Monday, January 3rd, 2011. In the meantime, please enjoy this 'classic' episode of Aero-TV from the past year as we all recover from our various and sundry Christmas celebrations...

At the 2010 Lakeland Fly-In, American Legend Aircraft Company premiered their newest tribute to the classic Piper Cub, the aptly named Classic J3. The Classic J3 development emerged from conversations with Legend Cub owners, the highly successful American Legend LSA aircraft.

For the past five years, the Legend Cub has been the best selling American-made light-sport aircraft in the industry. Legend Cub owners convinced company representatives that additional buyers would be interested in a slimmed-down, all-new model of the Cub.

Available in a single configuration, the Classic J3 features a single clamshell door and window combination reminiscent of the Piper J3; in addition, the aircraft will feature a sliding window on the left hand side similar to the Piper Super Cub.

Powered by the 100hp Continental O-200 engine, the Classic J3 features all-metal cowling with exposed cylinders, a Sensenich wood propeller, and 16-galloon fuel system.

Inside the cockpit, fans of the Piper J3 will recognize the classic instrument panel featuring oil pressure/temperature and tachometer for engine data and altimeter, airspeed, and inclinometer for flight data.

Unlike a fully restored Piper J3, however, the Classic J3 includes a 3-inch wider cabin, aft bench seat, and large baggage compartment for extended convenience and comfort. The Classic J3 will be S-LSA certified, priced less than most in the category at only $94,895.00 for a ready-to-fly aircraft.
