Bad Elf Inching Towards Crowdfunding Goal For ADS-B Receiver

Nearly $154,000 Raised In First Three Weeks Of Campaign

In three weeks, Bad Elf has raised just under $154,000 for its ADS-B receiver that is designed to bring weather and traffic information into the cockpit through nearly every EFB app on the market.

While that is an impressive start to their Kickstarter campaign, they still have a long way to go to reach their $500,000 initial goal in order for any of the money to be released for the project, and there is just a little more than a month before the deadline.

Bad Elf says that almost every aviation app vendor has enthusiastically jumped on board to support the receiver. "Like us, they’ve been hearing from you that the current ADS-B receivers on the market are just too expensive. They’ve been eager to discuss their ideas for new features and improvements we can make to the protocols used between our hardware and their apps. We’re looking forward to continuing these discussions in the next phase of our project," Brad Hackleman, Bad Elf co-founder and CTO said in an update posted to the Kickstarter campaign.

Most of the apps work "out of the box" with the Bad Elf prototype receiver.

Early backers have an opportunity to pre-order either a $249 ADS-B Weather and Traffic receiver, or a $399 receiver that also includes AHRS.

The deadline for the fundraising campaign is January 14 at 1900 EST.
