Turkish Aerospace HÜRKUS-II Completes Maiden Flight

Work On New Advanced Trainer Began In 2021

Turkish Aerospace (TUSAS) announced that its newest advanced trainer, the Hürkus-II successfully conducted its maiden flight on December 30, 2024 from Akinci Air Base. The aircraft was decorated with a drawing by the young daughter of engineer Zahide Güçlü Ekici, who was killed in a terrorist attack in Ankara on October 23, 2024.

Haluk Görgün, President of the Defense Industry Agency said, “I sincerely congratulate all the stakeholders involved in the project, especially TUSAS and our presidency, and we remember our martyrs with mercy.”

Dr.Mehmet Demiroglu, TUSAS General Manager said, “Hürkus-II, which will enter the inventory of our Air Force in a short time, successfully completed its flight. Seeing our dreams come true one by one shows how close we are to our future goals.”

Work on the aircraft was begun in May 2021 and it is designed to meet the training needs of the Turkish Air Force as well as to advance the air defense capabilities of the Turkish aerospace industry. The company and the Secretariat of Defense Industries executed a contract for 55 of the aircraft, with the first 15 to be delivered to the 122nd Basic Flight Training Squadron at the 3rd Main Jet Base in Konya by the end of 2025.

TUSAS said the Hürkus-II has been optimized with structural weight reductions and improved new-gen technologies as one of the most high-performance aerobatic aircraft in its class. It is anticipated to provide a tailored training experience for cadets in the Turkish Air Force.
