FAA Proposes $63,000 Civil Penalty Against Gladwin Paint Company

Agency Alleges HazMat Violations

The FAA has proposed a $63,000 civil penalty against Gladwin Paint Company of Arlington, Texas, for allegedly violating the Hazardous Materials Regulations.

The FAA alleges that on May 11, 2016, Gladwin offered a box containing flammable paint to FedEx for shipment by air from Arlington to Abilene, Texas.

The FAA alleges the shipment was not accompanied by shipping papers describing the material, and was not properly marked, labeled, packaged or in the proper condition for shipment to prevent the release of hazardous materials. The FAA further alleges Gladwin failed to ensure its employees had received required hazardous materials training, and failed to include emergency response information with the shipment.

Gladwin has 30 days from receipt of the FAA’s enforcement letter to respond to the agency.
