Daniel Webster ATC Student Wins AOPA ASF Scholarship

Kohn Scholarship awarded to Chris Hilbert, DWC sophomore

Daniel Webster College Air Traffic Control sophomore Chris Hilbert, of Allentown (PA) has been awarded the AOPA Air Safety Foundation's Koch Scholarship. The Koch Corporation, a Kentucky-based company specializing in noise abatement, sponsors the award. It is administered jointly by the AOPA Air Safety Foundation and the University Aviation Association. This year’s assigned topic for the 500-word essay was “What aspect of general aviation safety does not get adequate attention and why?”

A student in Writing for Publication at the college, Hilbert’s winning essay, “The Allure of Automation,” addressed how flight training must adapt to the rapidly advancing technology of the modern flight deck. In addition to possible publication, Hilbert received a $1,500 scholarship. The Kentucky-based Koch Corporation supports one student per year with a Koch Corporation Scholarship grant. Students must be enrolled in a baccalaureate-level, non-engineering aviation degree program at a four-year institution.

In addition to being an outstanding student with a grade point average above 3.25, Hilbert is a Writing Center tutor. He is the son of Laura and Michael Hilbert.
