Airbus Names Robin Hayes Chairman and CEO of Airbus Americas

Airbus Taps Robin Hayes, Former Jetblue CEO as New Chairman and CEO of Airbus Americas

Airbus has named Robin Hayes, the former CEO of JetBlue Airways, as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Americas, Inc. This leadership transition comes as C. Jeffrey Knittel prepares to retire on June 3, 2024, after a successful tenure at the helm since 2018. Hayes, a seasoned leader with 35 years in the aerospace sector, including significant roles at British Airways and JetBlue, is set to bring his extensive experience to Airbus.

During his time at JetBlue, Hayes not only led the airline through a transformative phase but also served as Chair of the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Board of Governors from 2020 to 2022. In this role, he was a strong advocate for the aviation industry's commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, a testament to his dedication to sustainability.

Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, expressed enthusiasm about Hayes joining the team, noting his vast industry experience and the value he brings in driving strategic objectives for Airbus in North America. This region is crucial for Airbus, housing over 10,000 employees and engaging with more than 2,000 U.S. suppliers.

As Chairman and CEO, Hayes will oversee Airbus's commercial aircraft operations and coordinate the helicopter, space, and defense sectors within North America. His leadership is expected to further enhance Airbus's industrial presence and manufacturing capabilities across the region.

Reflecting on his upcoming role, Hayes shared his excitement and commitment to building upon  the successes achieved under Knittel's leadership. He emphasized the importance of safety and decarbonization, aligning his goals with Airbus's broader mission of pioneering sustainable aerospace solutions.

Knittel, reflecting on his tenure, praised the growth and expansion Airbus has achieved in the Americas, highlighting the doubling of commercial aircraft deliveries and the significant expansion of the operational footprint. He expressed confidence in Hayes's ability to lead Airbus Americas forward, given his deep industry knowledge and established relationships within the aviation sector. This leadership change marks a significant moment for Airbus as it continues to navigate the complexities of the global aerospace industry while emphasizing sustainable practices and expanding its market presence in vital regions such as North America.
