Norfolk County, U.K Man Arrested For Shining Laser At A Police Helo

Pilots Identified The Suspect With Thermal Imaging Cameras

A man in Norfolk County in the eastern part of Great Britain may have thought he was pretty clever for hiding at his house and shining a laser pen at a National Police Service helicopter Wednesday morning. But he was apprehended anyway.

The pilot and crew of the aircraft said the cockpit was illuminated "seven or eight times" as it flew over Gorleston around 1:00 a.m. local time Wednesday. They used the aircraft's onboard thermal imaging cameras to identify the address where the beams originated, and guided officers on the ground to that address, according to a report in the Norwich Evening News.

When they arrived, they found a man in the garden shining the green laser into the cockpit of the aircraft.

A police spokeswoman said that a 34-year-old man was arrested, and a laser pen was confiscated at the scene. The man was charged with endangering an aircraft.
