USAF Investigating Cirrus Training Accident

Airplane Was A Military Version Of An SR20

A USAF T-53 Kadet 2 went down Monday at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Spring, CO. Neither person on board the aircraft appeared to be injured, according to a brief news release from the Academy, and the extent of damage to the plane has not been determined.

The Air Force said the accident occurred during a landing attempt at about 1730 MDT on Monday. The aircraft hit a hangar at the Academy, but few other details of the accident are available. Damage to the structure is also still being determined.

The names of those on board the aircraft have not been released by the Air Force. Spokeswoman Bekah Clark said one was a cadet, but it was not known if the second person on board was also a cadet or an instructor, according to the Associated Press. She said training flights had been grounded Tuesday morning, and there is no indication from the Air Force on the Academy website that flight training has resumed.

The Air Force acquired 25 of the SR-20 aircraft last year at a cost of about $244,000 each. It is a primary flight trainer aircraft assigned to the 306th Flying Training Group. It will be investigated by a board of officers.
