It's a tragedy that has stunned the historic aircraft community, if not all of the aviation world.
Seven people were fatally injured when a Collings Foundation B-17 went down Wednesday at Bradley International Airport (KDBL) in CT. The plane went down while trying to make an emergency landing shortly after the plane took off just before 10 a.m. It impacted a building which contained several tanks of deicing fluid. The aircraft was largely consumed by fire. Seven others sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical. One of those injured was on the ground. A firefighter also sustained minor injuries. After rumors that the company was for sale, Stratolaunch, which built the world's largest-wingspan airplane designed for launching small satellites into low-Earth orbit, looks like it's trying to rebuild. The company has posted 11 job openings, including two for test pilots. “As a test pilot on the history-making Stratolaunch Carrier Aircraft, the world’s largest-wingspan aircraft, you will have the opportunity to accomplish new milestones in aviation,” the company says in the
listing. The Stratolaunch airplane has flown exactly once ... making its maiden flight on April 13, 2019. Embraer's new Praetor 500 midsize business jet has been granted its Type Certificate by EASA and the FAA . The Praetor 500 also received regulatory approval from Brazil's Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC—Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil) in August, less than a year after having been announced in October 2018 at NBAA-BACE. The Praetor 500 achieves an intercontinental range of 3,340 nautical miles (NBAA IFR Reserves with four passengers), a high-speed cruise of 466 KTAS, a full-fuel payload of 1,600 lb, a takeoff distance of 4,222 ft and an unfactored landing distance of 2,086 ft. For a 1,000-nautical-mile mission, the take-off distance is a mere 2,842 ft. The Praetor 500 is the only midsize jet with full fly-by-wire control systems.
