Aero-TV: teTra Aviation Introduces New Mk-7 eVTOL

Electric Device Aimed to Expand Japanese Mobility

teTra Aviation, or technology for Transportation, showcased its new Mk-7 prototype at the 2024 EAA Oshkosh Airventure. The fully electric, vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) device is a part of the company’s effort to make air transportation more accessible in Japan.

The Mark 7 is still in the early stages of development and testing. It has a wingspan of just over 26 feet and is nearly 33 feet long. It has two seats and can maintain a 155 mph cruise speed for a range of 110 miles.

The aircraft is teTra’s latest development in its eVTOL series. The manufacturer’s current design, the Mk-5, made its debut in 2021. This single-seat machine has a maximum takeoff weight of around 1250 lbs, putting it in the US’s experimental light-sport aircraft category. It has a cruise speed of 100 mph and a range of 160 mph.

“We’re focusing on a Japanese market, which has very concentrated and dense populations,” stated teTra Aviation CEO Tasuku Nakai. “And, also, there’s lots of mountains and oceans, lots of terrain out there which prevents [ground transportation].”

Specifically, the Mk-7 is aimed to assist Japan’s aging population. It will shorten long travel times with the goal of making lives richer and more diverse.

teTra was founded in 2018 and joined the international race for eVTOL development through Boeing’s GoFly competition. Its design was chosen over 855 other teams worldwide. The manufacturer also became the first Japanese company to obtain an FAA eVTOL test flight permit through its promising technology.
