Airborne 07.11.14: FAA Works UL Fuels Issue, Skycraft Update, Avidyne IFD540

Also: Barnstorming: GA Dangers, Emirates 777X Order, #Apollo45!, FAA/AOA Indicator Update

The FAA announced yesterday it has received ten replacement fuel proposals from producers Afton Chemical Company, Avgas LLC, Shell, Swift Fuels and a consortium of BP, TOTAL and Hjelmco, for further evaluation in the Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative.

Last month, SkyCraft Airplanes declared to the FAA that its SD-1 Minisport is compliant with all ASTM specifications for Light Sport Aircraft certification. SkyCraft now awaits an FAA audit, after which it will be able to make its first aircraft deliveries. The FAA has scheduled SkyCraft’s audit for about two months from now. Avidyne says the certification process for the IFD540 is officially in the home stretch on its journey to FAA approval. Despite extensive, long-term delays, Avidyne says it is still confident that a TSO and an AML-STC can be obtained in time to allow for shipping prior to Oshkosh. All this... and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
